The name can be traced back 600 years. In the beginning it was "Shearman". The early people were wool workers and clothes makers in England. When John and his brother Samuel came to this country they changed the name to "Sherman" (?)
He sailed from Ipswich, England, in the ship "Elizabeth" April 1635 to Watertown, Mass. He was a puritan.
